A la edad de 12 a\u00f1os, David comenz\u00f3 a fotografiar el paisaje de las praderas y hacer sus propias impresiones en blanco y negro en un cuarto oscuro improvisado, que tambi\u00e9n serv\u00eda de armario de la habitaci\u00f3n. Principalmente autodidacta, sus conocimientos de arquitectura y de dise\u00f1o influyeron grandemente en una fotograf\u00eda simple. Influenciado por fot\u00f3grafos notables como Michael Kenna, Hiroshi Sugimoto y Fay Goodwin, David&#160; fotograf\u00eda con poca luz y rozando la oscuridad. Utiliza excepcionalmente largas exposiciones para ver lo que nuestros ojos no pueden ver.
